The gumball machine in progress.

Here’s a fun project I just finished working on. It’s an Android and Raspberry Pi powered gumball machine. There’s not much to the Android app right now because the gumball part is being integrated into an existing app. The gumball machine is powered by a wifi enabled Raspberry Pi running Node.js. When a button is pressed on the Android phone, the gumball machine gets a notification and starts turning a stepper motor, which dispenses a prize to the lucky recipient.

This was a really fun project to work on. It was a great combination of programming and physical building. It’s exciting to think of all the cool things you could do with an internet connected vending machine!

  • This is AWESOME! Could you please post video of the inner workings working. Could you explain in more detail how the communications between devices works? Thank you

  • We would love to build one of these for our office. Can you share the plans?
