Arduino Mural Drawing Robot Makes First (Crappy) Drawing

Mmm… Squiggly.

The drawing robot made it’s first drawing tonight. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s a big improvement over the random lines it was spitting out earlier. The biggest problem right now is the pen holder, which is made out of cardboard, tape, and pennies, and wiggles too much to draw precise lines. Once my Shapeoko is ready I’ll be able to cut a sturdier version out of wood.

Why isn’t my Shapeoko ready, you ask? Because I broke a tap inside one of the aluminum rails and can’t get it out. I tried drilling it out to use an EZ out, but the drill didn’t make a dent in the metal. So I guess I have to buy a new rail. Or find some acid to melt it out. That sounds like more fun.

  • Carbide bits usually work for drilling out inexpensive taps. Have to start out with a small bit and go up by steps to achieve the desired results.
